What Minecraft Means for Job Searchers

Minecraft has recently been selected as one of the 80 games to be shown at the Smithsonian American Art Museum as part of "The Art of Video Games" exhibit that is set to open in March of 2012. The game is built around creativity, allowing players to build constructions out of cubes in a 3D virtual world.

So what does a video game have to do with job hunting, you ask?

A lot actually.

The fact that a game that is built solely around innate creativity is fast becoming one of the most searched for downloads on the internet, and is being showcased at The Smithsonian, shows that there is a great supply of imaginative talent out there. People are looking for creative outlets in their recreational lives. These same people are the ones looking for creative outlets in their professional lives as well.

This is your competition.

It doesn't matter if you are in a tech field or not, the coming age is going to be all about creativity, ingenuity and the ability to adapt quickly in an ever-evolving job market and economy. Not only do you need to focus on where your personal branding is located, you also need to be sure your branding highlights your ability to be a creative and forward thinking team player in the 21st century economy.
